How to sell a car in France
Simple but vital
There was a case where a client was being pursued by the police and legal proceedings were being initiated by the other insurance company. The man had had an accident with a campervan that he had sold five years previously - because it was still registered in his name!

He had to produce bank statements and provide witnesses, all to prove he had actually sold the vehicle, because he didn't know the system. We had to provide proof from the insurance company that he had cancelled his insurance on the vehicle at the same time as the bank statements reflected the deposit and the witnesses statements. This was NOT easy to do five years on!

Luckily the story had a happy ending but our advice is: "Don't take the risk-do it properly!"

When you sell your car here in France you MUST fill in a form called the "Certificat de Cession d'un Véhicule"

You can get this form from your local Mairie, Préfecture or garage.
As one of our clients, you will be able to access this document and advice on how to fill it out in our client area.
